PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain subject polymer having specific structure, not only having small band gap but also reflecting optically active characters, manifesting circular dichroism up as far as long wave length region, useful as the optical resolution column or the like. SOLUTION: This polymer is a conjugated polymer having a main chain obtained by bonding aromatic compound (preferably, having one or more carbon ring or heterocycle) with methine group, and having optically active group (preferably bonded to the methine group comprising the main chain) as the side chain, and preferably having constituent units expressed by formula (R1 is an aromatic group; R2 is an optically active group). The prescribed polymer is preferably obtained by polymerizing an aromatic compound with an optically active compound having aldehyde group, to bond the aromatic compound with the methine group originating from the aldehyde group of the optically active compound.
