PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate compound, capable of efficiently and simply separating and removing coloring components contained in the tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate compound and capable of efficiently providing the tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate compound in a high purity at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for purifying a tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate compound of the formula [R1-R10 are independently each H, F, a hydrocarbon groups or an alkoxy group, provided that at least one of R1-R5 is F and provided that at least one of R6-R10 is F; M is H, an alkyl metal, an alkaline earth metal or an alkaline earth metal halide; (n) is 3 or 4; (m) is 2, when M is an alkaline earth metal, or 1 in other cases] comprises mixing a solution containing an organic solvent and a compound of the formula containing impurities with water. The purified compound is reacted with a compound generating a monovalent cation species to produce a derivative.
