PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization rate of light emitted from a light source, to increase uniformity in the lighting luminance distribution of image display parts without the use of a fly eye lens, and to maintain constantly an incident angle to a dichroic mirror in color separation. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a light source lamp 1, condenser lens 11 on the lighting side, spherical reflection mirror 20, optical system 16 for converting luminous flux width, polarized light for separating and resynthesizing element 15, condenser lens 13 on the projecting side, image display unit 3 and a projection lens 14. The light source lamp 1 is light-transmissive at the light emitting part or its proximity, the condenser lens 11 on the lighting side is arranged, so that the focus is positioned at the light emitting part or its proximity of the light source lamp 1, and the spherical reflection mirror 20 is also arranged so that the center of the sphere positioned in the same manner. The divergent light reaching the spherical reflection mirror 20 from the light source lamp 1 is reflected and guided to the condenser lens 11 on the lighting side through the light emitting part or its proximity of the light source lamp 1. |
