PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scanning sonar, by which the state of the bottom of the sea and that of a fish school in the area of the sea in a predetermined range can be grasped three-dimensionally and precisely by one sonar image, and by which the efficiency of a fishing operation is enhanced. SOLUTION: An edge extraction part 3 and an extracted-edge memory 4, in which a signal in the edge part of a sonar video signal covering one transmission-reception portion from a two-dimensional image memory 2, and which store a plurality of transmission-reception portions transmitted and received at present and in the past, are installed. A ship-navigation information memory 5 which stores ship-navigation information SI including the speed and the advance direction of a ship is installed. A three-dimensional-image-signal generation and storage part 6 in which signals in edge parts of the plurality of transmission-reception portions from the extracted-edge memory 4 are arranged, composed and stored in such a way that the display position of a sonar image is decided on the basis of the ship-navigation information SI so as to obtain a visually three-dimensional image is installed. On the basis of a signal which is read out from the three-dimensional image signal generation and storage part 6, the sonar image is displayed on a display 7.
