摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for activating a gas diffusion electrode by which the initial performance is improved, the performance is improved with the operating time, and the service life is stably prolonged and to furnish a testing method by which the quality of the electrode is confirmed in a short time, and the service life is predicted. SOLUTION: A gas diffusion electrode is activated by conducting electrolysis with the diffusion electrode as a cathode in an electrolytic solution to generate hydrogen and infiltrate the solution easily into the hydrophilic pore in the reaction layer of the electrode. The gas diffusion electrode is tested by passing an oxygen current through the electrolytic solution at least at the start with the diffusion electrode as a cathode to measure the polarization curve of an oxygen reduction reaction, the stopping the oxygen gas or allowing a nitrogen gas current to flow to generate hydrogen, passing again an oxygen gas current to measure the polarization curve of the oxygen reduction reaction and measuring the performance of the diffusion electrode from the oxygen reduction potential and the appearance of the electrode.
