The air conditioning system has a housing (10a) forming an air passage (8,9) via which air is blown into the passenger compartment. The housing has openings (15,22) via which air is blown towards the underside of the passenger compartment and towards the windscreen. The air is heated by a heat exchanger (13) with a flowing fluid heat source. Several electrical heating elements (137,138) in the housing heat air flowing through it. Controllers determine the number of heating elements to be operated and the power to be delivered to them. Power is pref. delivered to a heating element (138) on one side of the lower opening (22). An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method.
