<p>In order to prevent the formation of microbends in the fibres when the cable is subjected to temperature variations between -40 °C and +85 °C approximately, a cable with N optical fibres (FO) each having a core (1) and a coating (2) with thermal expansion/compression coefficients α1 and α2, tractive moduli of elasticity E1 and E2 and cross-sections S1 and S2 comprises a retaining sheath (3) enclosing the optical fibres embedded in a filling material (4) with thermal expansion/compression coefficient α4, tractive modulus of elasticity E4 and cross-section S4. The sheath satisfies the unequation: (α3.E3.S3) ≤ [α1.E1.S1) + (α2.E2.S2)] (N/14) + (α4.E4.S4) where α3, E3 and S3 are the thermal expansion/compression coefficient, the tractive modulus of elasticity and the cross-section of the sheath.</p> |
