A method and apparatus is provided for programming small computing devices (204) such as mobile telephones, EFT terminals, and the like. In order to reduce the amount of memory space occupied by code and routines (202) that are usually necessary for initialisation of the computing device, programs (206) are provided that are already in a functional state, having been initialised prior to loading into the computing device. Any code unnecessary post initialisation (202, 203) is not loaded into the computing device.
