PURPOSE: Provided are a neuraminic acid compound or its pharmacologically acceptable salts having excellent in vivo slides inhibitory activity, compositions for treatment or prevention of influenza viral infections containing them as their active ingredients CONSTITUTION: A neuraminic acid compound represented by the formula 1: wherein R(1)represents a C1-C4 group which may be substituted with a halogen atom; R(2), R(3) and R(4) may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom or a C3-C25 aliphatic acyl group; and W represents a hydrogen atom or an ester residue, provided that the case where R(1) is a methyl group and each of R(2), R(3), R(4) and W is a hydrogen atom is excluded U or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof. The neuraminic acid compound of the present invention exhibits excellent in vivo slides inhibitory activity and is useful as a therapeutic agent or a preventive agent for influenza viral infections.
