PURPOSE: A disk having redundant space for fault management and method for assigning redundant space is provided to effectively use a space of a disk by suitably adjusting a redundant space according to an application object. CONSTITUTION: It is judged as to whether an additional redundant space is needed while a disk is used(S201). It is judged as to whether a sufficient and successive empty space is existed at a rear portion of a logic file space when the additional redundant space is needed(S202). The addition redundant space is assigned at a uniform size when the sufficient and successive empty space is existed at the rear portion of the logic file space, and it is judged as whether an additional redundant space is additionally needed(S203). The empty space is arranged by a file system or an application program when the sufficient and successive empty space is not existed at the rear portion of the logic file space(S204). It is judged as to whether a successive empty space is existed(S205). A certain message is displayed and completed when the successive empty space is not existed(S206).
