PURPOSE: A method for replaying/recording image data and an apparatus the same are provided to record a high definition image for a recording medium having a sufficient memory capacity in a low cost, to replay the image data recorded in the recording medium, and to read the image data by computer. CONSTITUTION: A method for recording image data comprises the steps of: a first processing step of converting original images into many record images having different resolution; a second processing step of dividing at least some of the record images into different divisors, and generating many divided images having same element numbers of the record images; and a third processing step of recording image data of the record images to an information recording medium as frame units, corresponding to the divided images. The step 2 includes a sub step of dividing the recording images into element blocks including each arranged element, respectively, and generating the divided images by reunifying the elements after combining the elements, obtained by taking more than one element from each element block. An apparatus for replaying the image data converts the original images into replaying images, divides at least some of the replaying images into different divisors, generates divided images having same element numbers, and replays the image data from the information recording medium, having the recorded image data by consecutively recording the image data to the information recording medium as frame units. The apparatus comprises a reading device and an image processor. The reading device selectively reads the divided images of the replay images of requiring resolution. An image processor reunifies/combines the divided images and outputs the replay images.
