The invention relates to heat-insulating layers on a substrate as well as to a use therefor. The heat-insulating layer consists of between 10 and 90 % by weight glass as well as a ceramic and/or metal and/or metal alloy. The invention provides for the substrate to consist notably of gas turbine parts, gas turbine blades and combustion chamber plates and is used preferably at temperatures above 800 DEG C. The heat-insulating layer also protects against oxidation. Adjustment of the coefficients of expansion and the creepage of the heat-insulating layer advantageously prevent heat-induced stress.
