GLASS INDUCTION MELTING FURNACE USING A COLD CRUCIBLE

PURPOSE: A glass induction melting furnace using a cold crucible is provided for a smelter by direct induction out of cold crucible, including/understanding - a metal cold crucible not sectionized and for an inductor to create inside the cold crucible of the currents induced in material placed in the cold crucible. CONSTITUTION: An insulating material melting furnace including a cooled crucible (10) with a continuous metal side wall, a sectored cooled floor (12), and at least one field magnet (28) arranged under the floor and forming the only heating means. The level of the melt in the crucible and the field magnet excitation frequency are selected in such a way that the level and the internal half-radius of the crucible are smaller than the melt skin thickness resulting from the field magnet excitation frequency.
