PROCESS FOR PRODUCING CARBOXYLIC ACID ESTERS AND CATALYST

PURPOSE: A process for producing carboxyl acid esters from an aldehyde and an alcohol in a high yield and a catalyst being used in the process are provided. CONSTITUTION: Carboxylic acid esters are produced by reacting an aldehyde with an alcohol in a liquid phase in the presence of molecular oxygen. A catalyst is composed of at least palladium and X (which is bismuth and/or lead) supported by a carrier and having an acid strength of pKa>4.8 and an ammonia chemisorption amount of 0 to 150.mgr.mol/g-catalyst at 0°C.
