PURPOSE: A method for producing vet black dye is provided which does not cause an environmental contamination and has a high purity of 99% or more. CONSTITUTION: A method of producing vet black dye represented by the following formula (1) comprises the steps of condensation reacting 1-aminoanthraquinone with 3,9-dibromobenzanthrone in the presence of a solvent selected for a group consisting of 1-methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene, a catalyst containing Cu2O and Cu, and base; and cyclization of the reaction product in the presence the alkalic fusion solution.
