Compounds represented by the general formula (I), and salts thereof, which have an effect of inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase to suppress the proliferation of cancer cells selectively: Ar<1>-S-R<1>-S-Ar<2> wherein R<1> is a monocyclic connecting group which has one saturated five-membered cyclic structure containing one or more nitrogen atoms as the ring-constituting atoms, or a bi- or tricyclic connecting group which has two or three saturated five- or six-membered cyclic structures and contains as the ring-constituting atoms one or more heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur; and Ar<1> and Ar<2> are each an aryl or heteroaryl group having one or more hydroxyl groups on the ring.
