PURPOSE: Certain imin-substituted heterocyclic compounds, and methods of treatment and pharmaceutical compositions that utilize or comprise one or more such compounds is provided, which are particularly useful for the treatment or prophylaxis of neurological injury and neuro degenerative disorders. CONSTITUTION: A compound of the following Formula I and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are provided: wherein Z is sulfur, oxygen, carbon or nitrogen; m and n are each independently an integer from 0 to 4, and the sum of m and n is at least 2; each X is independently substituted or unsubstituted alkyl; substituted or unsubstituted alkylsilyl; substituted or unsubstiruted alkenyl; substituted or unsubstituted alkynyl; substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy; substituted or unsubstituted alkylthio; substituted or unsubstituted alkylamino; substituted or unsubstituted alkylsulfinyl; substituted or unsubstituted alkylsulfonyl; substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl; substituted or unsubstituted carbo cyclic aryl; or a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaromatic or heteroalicyclic group having from 1 to 3 rings, 3 to 8 ring members in each ring and from 1 to 3 hetero atoms; p is an integer of from 0 to 14.
