An MO recording medium comprising, formed on a substrate in the order mentioned, a first dielectric layer, a second dielectric layer larger in refractive index than the first dielectric layer and an MO recording layer, wherein the difference between maximum and minimum refractive indexes of light incident from the substrate side is up to 8 as expressed in percentage in a wavelength region of at least 400 nm and up to 800 nm, whereby accommodating a shorter waveform trend.
