<p>PURPOSE: An ammonia converter and a method for converting ammonia synthesis loop purge gas containing nitrogen and hydrogen to form additional ammonia are provided which have the advantage of low energy consumption, low purge rate and high productivity of ammonia. CONSTITUTION: An ammonia converter, a method for converting ammonia synthesis loop purge gas containing nitrogen and hydrogen to form additional ammonia and a method for remodeling conventional ammonia plants having a synthetic loop using iron-based synthesis catalysts and a purge gas stream in which the remodeling method contains an auxiliary ammonia converter for a purge gas stream as a shell-and-tube reactor are described. The tube is filled with a catalyst comprising a platinum group metal such as ruthenium and substantially maintained in an isothermal state by boiling water.</p> |
