<p>PURPOSE: Thermal transfer articles are provided which exhibit thermoplastic, low cohesive properties during transfer such that good image resolution and transfer are achieved, and which are thermally cross-linked such that a durable image is formed. CONSTITUTION: A retro reflective graphic articles comprise a retro reflective base sheet and at least one color layer disposed in the effective optical path of the base sheet. The base sheet is an optically complete retro reflective construction, e.g., a sheet of high intensity sheeting, or is an optically incomplete construction that needs an additional component to be retro reflective. In either instance, however, the color layer is disposed in the article so as to be in the path of light which is retro reflected by the resultant article. The color layer comprises a color agent and a cross linking agent in a copolymeric binder. A thermal transfer articles are useful in producing graphic articles and comprise a carrier having at least one major surface having a color layer removably adhered thereto, wherein the color layer comprises the color layer described herein. The articles comprise a cross linking resin adapted to cross link the copolymer of the color layer either during, or more preferably, after thermal transfer of the color layer to a retro reflective substrate.</p> |
