A face seal assembly (24) comprises a pair of confronting seal rings (66, 68) having mutually-engaging seal faces (74). The seal faces (74) are maintained in sealing engagement by a pair of resilient load rings that are positioned between the seal rings (70, 72) and a pair of housings (20, 14) that are positioned on opposing sides of the seal rings (66, 68). The load rings (70, 72) are received within a recess (84, 86) defined by the respective housings (20, 14) and are adapted to interfit with one another to thereby resist relative rotation therebetween.
