PURPOSE: A method for reserving a channel on TVCR(TV/Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to reduce power consumption by detecting a broadcasting signal corresponding to a reserved channel, by detecting a broadcasting signal corresponding to a neighbor channel when the signal is not detected, or by intercepting power supply if a tape does not exist in a video deck as detecting whether the tape exists, when the broadcasting signal of the neighbor channel is not detected. CONSTITUTION: TVCR(TV/Video Cassette Recorder) detects a broadcasting signal corresponding to a reserved channel, detects a broadcasting signal corresponding to a neighbor channel, and intercepts power supply if a tape does not exist in a video deck when the broadcasting signal of the neighbor channel is not detected. A method for reserving a channel on the TVCR comprises the steps of: searching the neighbor channel in order if the broadcasting signal of the reserved channel is not detected, when the channel and time are reserved by a remote controller; detecting whether the tape is inserted in the video deck when the broadcasting signal of the neighbor channel is not detected; replaying the tape if the tape is inserted; and intercepting power supplied to the TVCR if the tape is not inserted.
