The invention relates to a method for hardening powder coatings by coating substrates with said powder coatings and irradiating them with radiation in the near infrared range (NIR-radiation), and is characterised in that the hardening times and/or the surface temperatures of the powder-coating coated substrates that are attainable through irradiation during particular hardeni ng times can be regulated by regulating the barium sulfate and/or aluminium oxi de content of the powder coatings to 1 to 50 wt.-% and/or regulating the carbon black content of the powder coatings to 0.1 to 5 wt.-%, in relation to the total weight of the powder coating composition.
