An examination chair for gynecological and urological examinations, comprising a chair section (14) with a seat (22), a backrest (24) and a support column (12) that has a column head which can be adjusted heightwise by means of an actuator (20), on which the chair section is mounted. The backrest (24) is pivotally mounted on the column head (18) around a horizontal first pivoting shaft (28) and can be swivelled by means of a drive mechanism (30), whereby the seat (20) is pivotally mounted on the backrest (24) around a second pivoting shaft (36) which is parallel to the first pivoting shaft (28) and connected to the backrest (24) by a four-bar mechanism (38) that includes both pivoting shafts (28,36) an articulated shaft (40) that is fixed to the seat and a free articulated shaft (42). The limb (46) of the four-bar mechanism (38) connecting the first pivoting shaft (28) to the free articulated shaft (42) is a first lever arm belonging to a control lever (48) having two arms and cooperates with a stop (54) that is secured to the column in order to determine the base position of the seat (22), whereby the second lever arm (50) of the control lever (48) is designed to displace the seat (20) so that it can cooperate with a stop (60) that is secured to the backrest.
