The hydro-pneumatic spring strut for a motor vehicle suspension has a damping fluid flow opening controlled by a throttle element. The throttle element is formed of at least two reduced cross sections (6) defined by flow connection (5). The throttle can be formed as a tube defining a helical damping fluid flow passage inside the cylinder (1).
