[Also in Division D1] A seamless breast cup or complete brassiere is moulded from an interlooped fabric such as Leavers lace, Fig. 5, Raschel or bobbinet fabric made of partially drawn thermoplastic yarns, preferably long chain high molecular weight synthetic polymers such as linear polyamides e.g. nylon, polyesters, polyurethane or polypropylene fibres. The fabric is prepared for moulding by treating it with a water dispersion of a thermo-setting resin e.g. a permanent melamine formaldehyde resin, a thermoplastic resin of the permanent acrylic type and a silicone resin and drying it and then cold or hot moulded to complete the drawing of the yarn to form a breast cup or complete brassiere. The moulded cup or brassiere is heat set to stabilize the molecular structure of the yarns. The cups may comprise more than one layer moulded simultaneously, the resins bonding the layers together. |
