PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial composition having excellent stability with time and thermal stability, no decomposition of isothiazolone compound and reduced skin irritation of the isothiazolone compound by making the composition include the isothiazolone compound and an aminocarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) an isothiazolone compound of formula I or formula II (R1 is H, an alkyl or the like; X and Y are each H, a halogen or the like; M is a cation of an alkali metal, an amine or the like; (Z) is an anion; (a) is 1 or 2; (n) is an integer for making the anion Z satisfy the valence of the cation M) (e.g. 2-methyl-4-isothiaizolin-3-one, etc.), and (B) an aminocarboxylic acid of formula III [R2 is H or a (substituted) 1-5C alkyl; R3 is a 1-5C alkylene; R4 is H, a (substituted) 1-5C alkyl or the like; (b) is 0 or 1] (e.g. glycine, etc.), or its derivative. Preferably the composition comprises 0.1-10 wt.% of the component A and 0.1-50 times as much as the molar amount of the component A.
