PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a lower olefin from a lower saturated hydrocarbon by an oxidative dehydrogenation process, capable of giving the lower olefin in improved selectivity and yield. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a lower olefin from a lower saturated hydrocarbon, such as ethane and propane, by oxidative dehydrogenation in the presence of oxygen, the characteristic comprises using a catalyst of a lithium compound supported on a super strong acid carrier comprising a zirconia-based oxide. Therein, the catalyst may contain a transition metal compound.
