PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base sheet for printing a thermal stencil having excellent durability against printing of a large quantity and excellent printing of a high quality level. SOLUTION: In the base sheet for printing a thermal stencil comprising a thermoplastic resin film and a porous support, the support is constituted of thermoplastic fibers each having a mean fiber size of 2 to 10μm, and a mean value M of double refractionsΔn of the fibers arranged in a lengthwise direction of the sheet and a mean value T of the double refractionsΔn of the fibers arranged in a lateral direction satisfy all formulae 0.02<=M-T<=0.15, 0.05<=M<=0.2 and 0.05<=T<=0.2.
