PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging method and an imaging apparatus in which consumption of printing material due to test print can be suppressed and processing time can be utilized effectively. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus 2 comprises means 101 for outputting an image data and a print mode to the imaging apparatus 2 (hereinafter, referred to printer) from a host computer 1, a section 11 for receiving the image data and the print mode, an image control means 102 in an image control section 12 for controlling an image memory section 103, an imaging section 14 and a temporary stop means 103, a temporary stop means 103 for controlling stoppage of print operation and release of temporary stoppage, the image memory section 13 having an RAM 104, the imaging section 14 for generating a dot pattern, a print section 15, and an operating section 16 having operating buttons 105 for designating stoppage and restart of printing and performing temporary stoppage releasing operation.
