PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a hood part from being left unwashed or damaged even in washing a car with a hood height of 60 cm or less. SOLUTION: This car washer is provided with travel mechanism for making a car washer body travel, moving mechanism 20 for moving a car washing brush 6 elevatingly, and a control device for computing car shape data, receiving signals of a car sensor and a travel sensor so as to control the travel mechanism and moving mechanism 20 on the basis of the car shape data. An elevating plate 23 of the moving mechanism 20 is provided with a supporting shaft 25, and the car washing brush 6 is fitted to a swing arm 27 provided at the supporting shaft 25. A deflection sensor 30 is provided to output a deflection signal when the swing arm 27 is rotated at a fixed angle or more. The control device receives the deflection signal and outputs a retreat driving signal to the moving mechanism 20, and the moving mechanism 20 receiving the retreat driving signal moves up the elevating plate 23 to retreat the car washing brush 6.
