PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically activeγ-lactone useful as a raw material of an aromatizing agent and a pheromone simply at a low cost by performing an asymmetric esterification reaction of a hydroxyamide compound of a specificγ-lactone using a lipase as a catalyst. SOLUTION: The objective optically activeγ-lactone useful as a raw material of an aromatizing agent and a pheromone and expressed by formula II (a carbon atom attached with * mark is an optically active carbon atom) is obtained simply and at a low cost by performing an asymmetric esterification reaction of a hydroxyamide compound of aγ-lactone expressed by formula I (R1 is a 2-8C saturated and an unsaturated liner chain alkyl; R2, R3 are each H, a 1-5C saturated alkyl, a 1-5C unsaturated alkyl, an aralkyl or an aromatic hydrocarbon) using a lipase produced by a microorganism.
