PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving a small size inexpensively, forming a color image with a uniform image quality and a high resolution at a high speed, and reducing deterioration of the color registration even in case of displacements in the relative mounting positions of a light source and an optical element. SOLUTION: Laser beams 2c, 2y, 2m, 2k each for C, Y, M, K colors, successively outputted from each laser element in a laser array 1 pass through an image forming optical system 3, and are divided into the photosensitive drums 5C, 5Y, 5M, 5K side and the polarizing optical system 6 side by a dividing optical system 4. The laser beams 2c, 2y, 2m, 2k inputted in the polarizing optical system 6 are bent by optical mirrors 60C, 60Y, 60M, 60K such that the main light beams of the laser beams 2 coincide on photodetectors 7C, 7Y, 7M, 7K so as to be inputted to the substantially same position of the photodetectors 7C, 7Y, 7M, 7K. The photodetectors 7C, 7Y, 7M, 7K detect the light amount of the laser beams 2c, 2y, 2m, 2k from each laser element independently.
