PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new β-1,4-galactose transferase enabling the selective and specific β1,4-bonding of galactose to N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulfate, and to provide a method for producing the transferase. SOLUTION: This β1,4-galactose transferase specific to N-acetylglucosamine-6- sulfate is obtained by treating a suspension of the large intestine mucous membrane of pig, man or the like with an affinity chromatography using a UDP-hexanolamine sepharose column and an asialo-agalacto-ovomucin column. The enzyme is used for the β1,4 bonding of the galactose to a sugar chain having an N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulfate residue at the non-reducing terminal. |
