PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily, speedily, precisely and safely measure the forward bending ability of a person to be measured, to reduce a cost for producing and to improve handleabililty. SOLUTION: This measuring instrument is provided with a main body frame 12 installed on a floor surface 10 and provided with a hand placing plate mounting surface 11 horizontally extended in a longitudinal direction at its top, a hand placing plate 18 mounted freely movable in a longitudinal direction on the surface 11 and provided with a hand placing surface 21 for placing the hands 20 of the person to be measured 19 sitting on the floor surface 10 on one end side of the frame 12 on a top surface and a digital measuring mechanism 24 measuring the moving distance of the plate 18 linked with the forward bending movement of the person 19 and digitally displaying a measured value. The mechanism 24 is provided with a zero adjusting function capable of zero- adjusting the plate 18 at an optional position on the surface 11.
