PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid ester from oil-and-fat and an alcohol by a simple means in high yield, and to obtain a fuel comprising the fatty acid ester. SOLUTION: This method for producing a fatty acid ester from oil-and-fat and an alcohol comprises conducting a reaction under such conditions that the oil-and-fat and/or the alcohol stand in a supercritical state in the absence of catalyst. When this method is applied to waste oil-and-fat, a useful fuel or the like can be easily produced; therefore this method is useful in view of resource recycling and pollution control.
