PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition useful as a germicide for water treatment, an antiseptic for general industries, etc., having excellent safety by making the composition include a halocyanoacetamide, a glycol haloacetate, an oxyalkylene ether, etc. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) a halocyanoacetamide formula I (X1 is a halogen; X2 is H or a halogen; R1 is H or a 1-4C alkyl) (e.g. dibromocyanoacetamide, etc.), (B) a glycol haloacetate of formula II (Y is a halogen; R2 is a 1-4C alkylene or a 2-4C alkenylene) [e.g. 1,2-bis(bromoacetoxy) ethane, etc.], (C) an oxyalkylene ether of the formula H-(OCnH2n)m-OR3 (R3 is a 1-6C alkyl; n is 2 or 3; m is 1-6) (e.g. diethylene glycol monomethyl ether, etc.), and (D) propylene carbonate. Preferably the composition comprises 4-50 wt.% of the component A, 4-70 wt.% of the component B, 2-40 wt.% of the component C and 20-90 wt.% of the component D.
