PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit for obtaining a high resolution which has a high reproducibility for print results to input print data and is small in circuit scale. SOLUTION: A line data memory circuit 12 stores print data from an input control circuit 11. A reference template formation circuit 13 forms a reference template of 4 lines×3 dots from the print data stored in the line data memory circuit 12, divides the template to three and outputs them. Operation circuits 14a-14c obtain densities of the split reference templates respectively. A first selector 18 takes out pulse width set information from pulse width-setting registers 16a-16g based on operation results of the central operation circuit. A second selector takes out pulse position set information from pulse position- setting registers based on a difference of operation results of the left operation circuit and right operation circuit which is obtained by a subtraction circuit 15. A pulse width modulation information formation circuit 20 forms pulse width modulation information based on these informations and outputs the information to a modulation circuit 21.
