PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin preparation for external use excellent in percutaneous absorption of skin whitening component, having high skin whitening effect and excellent in safety by including a skin-whitening component and p- menthane-3,8-diol. SOLUTION: This skin preparation comprises (A) skin-whitening component (e.g.α-hydroxy acid such as arbutin, kojic acid, ellagic acid, ascorbic acid or its derivative, lactic acid, glycolic acid or tartaric acid or a skin-whitening component contained in essential oil or absolute extracted from a plant such as Cistus ladaniferus L., Jasminum officinale L. or Tanacetum vulgare L.) and (B) p-menthane-3,8-diol, preferably in (5:95) to (96:5) ratio of components A:B. The formulation ratio of the component B in the case formulating the component B into a base as an auxiliary for promoting percutaneous absorption is usually 0.01-20 wt.%, preferably 0.1-10 wt,% based on total of skin preparation for external use.
