PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 1,1-bis(difluoromethoxy)tetrafluoroethane and 2-[1-(difluoromethoxy)-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethoxy]-2,2-difluoroacetic acid as the compounds useful for working fluids, foaming agents, detergents, reaction media, or their precursors, and also to provide methods for producing them. SOLUTION: This compound of 1,1-bis(difluoromethoxy)tetrafluoroethane is obtained by neutralizing 2-[1-(difluoromethoxy)-1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethoxy]-2,2- difluoroacetic acid with a hydroxide of alkali metal and then decarbonating the product. This compound of 2-[1-(difluoromethoxy)-1,2,2,2- tetrafluoroethoxy]-2,2-difluoroacetic acid is obtained by fluorinating 2-(acetoxymethyl)-2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane with a fluorine gas, and then hydrolyzing the product.
