PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method meeting to mechanization and automatization of areas, in which operations for cutting bottom grasses, grasses, etc., are carried out, such as forests, orchards, parks, etc. SOLUTION: This grass cutter is installed with a working vehicle, a robot arm 10 and a cutting device 30 fitted on the top end of a robot arm 10. The robot arm 10 has a bendable structure comprising arm elements 11 and 12 and a joint 13 connecting the arm elements 11 and 12 to be bendable and enables the cutting device 30 to move back-forth and up-and-down. The method for cutting using the grass cutter is firstly to carry out a cutting operation in a sectional area by movements to turn the cutting device 30 around the working vehicle as a center and move forward and backward in an equal pitch and secondly guide the cutting device 30 to a position to be cut by a non-contact type detecting system.
