PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a halogenated hydrocarbon, enabling the preparation of the halogenated hydrocarbon in excellent preparation efficiency and yield and the easy recovery and simple return of the catalyst to a reactor by reacting a haloalkane with an olefin in the presence of a catalyst and an auxiliary catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for preparing a halogenated hydrocarbon comprises reacting (C) a halogenated alkane with (D) an olefin (preferably halogenated olefin) in the presence of (A) a catalyst (preferably a 8-25C aliphatic amine) and (B) an auxiliary catalyst selected from amines which are not more volatile than the prepared halogenated hydrocarbon (preferably nonylamine, decylamine, undecylamine or dodecylamine) under conditions suitable for the reaction and subsequently dividing the reaction product into a fraction containing the objective halogenated hydrocarbon and a fraction containing the components A and B. Further, at least a part of the fraction containing the components A and B is optionally returned to the first reaction process.
