PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge head with can obtain a high halftone performance without using a multi-valued heater, can simplify a circuit constitution, can be small, changes a volume of liquid drops to be discharged by controlling a volume of air bubbles generated in a liquid channel and realizes a density change and a dot change on a medium to be recorded. SOLUTION: The liquid discharge head includes a heating element 102 for generating a heat energy to be utilized for discharging a liquid from a discharge opening and a protecting layer set on the heating element 102 for protecting the heating element 102. The protecting layer has a first area of an almost uniform predetermined thickness and a second area 105 of an almost uniform smaller thickness than the predetermined thickness. The protecting layer changes a volume of liquid drops to be discharged from the discharge opening by changing an electric energy applied to the heating element 102.
