PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent meandering of a conveyor belt from being erroneously detected by surely preventing coarsely crushed product after drying from interrupting the light receiving part of a meandering detecting device. SOLUTION: This protection structure is provided to a belt type drying device 1 for drying a viscous water-soluble substance M1 fed to the upper stream of a conveyor belt 2 through a feed nozzle until it reaches the lower stream end by rotation of the conveyor belt 2, and coarsely crushing by a coarse crusher 4 at the lower stream end into coarsely crushed product M3. A fall preventing plates 61 arranged so that the lower end edges are faced to side surface of the conveyor belt 2, and the upper end edges are positioned on the outer upper positions of the lower end edges, on the positions corresponding to optical paths of light emitted from a light emitting part 51. The fall preventing plates 61 is formed so as not to interfere in the optical paths.
