PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste ink storing device for an ink jet printer and an ink jet printer having the same capable of allowing waste ink to be uniformly and efficiently absorbed to a waste ink absorbing body. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a waste ink storing device for an ink jet printer wherein a waste ink absorbing body 42 for storing waste ink created in a print head by absorbing the waste ink and a waste ink vessel 41 for storing the waste ink absorbing body 42 are provided such that the waste ink flowing downwardly is received by the top face of the waste ink absorbing body 42. The waste ink absorbing body 42 has a plurality of ink absorbing plates 43 which are laminated vertically and each of which has a through-hole 44 passing through in the vertical direction. The through-holes 44 in the vertically-adjacent ink absorbing plates 43 are relatively shifted such that the through-holes 44 are partially communicated with each other.
