The arrangement has a switching element (12) connected in series with the load (14) and a controller (20,21) for driving the switching element to perform phase control. The controller has an adjustable capacitance for setting the phase angle and hence the power fed to the load. An Independent claim is also included for a method of controlling power in electrical loads connected to an AC supply network.
