The back seat for a motor vehicle is foldable forwardly to a stowed position. A seat plate has a base (10) and a pivoted section (22) which are pivoted together, with the seat sprung to an extended position. A stop (52) is provided to prevent collapse on impact. The stop is form-lockable with the seat base and can have a U-shaped cross section.
