The present invention relates to a diagnostic system intended for the wattage power regulator of a high-pressure gas-discharge lamp in a vehicle. A light variation module is excited by a supply line and, in case of error, the wattage power regulator sends a diagnosis signal to said light variation module through the supply line. To this end and in case of error, the wattage power regulator modulates the sampled static current using a switchable current receptor. The light variation module is thus provided with a diagnostic information coded though the supply line.
