A high temperature resistant alkaline earth metal aluminosilicate glass having related aluminum, phosphorus and zirconium oxide contents is new. A novel high temperature resistant alkaline earth metal aluminosilicate glass has the composition (by wt., on oxide basis) 46-63% SiO2, 12-25% Al2O3, 0-5% MgO, 3-14% CaO, 0-11% SrO, 6-15% BaO, 0.1-5% ZrO2 and 0.1-9% P2O5, the sum of SrO + BaO being /-10% and the sum of alkaline earth metal oxides being <= 25%.
