Inflatable airbag, for vehicle passenger safety systems, has at least one seam (12) to bond a number of fabric layers (14) together. Each layer (14) has a sealing coating (16) on at least one side, and over the whole surface area. An additional coating (18) is at the seam (12), in a heavier application weight than each of the separate sealing coatings (16). An Independent claim is also included for production of the airbag, where the sealing coatings (16,18) are applied to the layers by printing. Preferred Features: The sealing coatings (16) are applied by a screen printing, especially a flat screen or rotary screen printing press. The additional sealing coating (18) is applied as strips along the seam (12). The seam (12) is formed by weaving the layers (14) together.
